Photoshoot

photoshoot

This is the planning for the photoshoot that is going to used with our print/ancilliary work. I will be explaining the boxes in more detail below because I feel that the boxes aren’t big enough to fully explain.

For the first box I haven’t actually filled this in and I am now going to talk about why I haven’t done this. The reason for not doing this is because me and Sam have decided that for our poster we are going to just have the hand in shot and one of our chosen props either on the ground or stuck into the ground. The denotation of this is that the victim has been invloved with the antagonist but we want to give the connotation that they don’t know who was attacked and how. So in a way the villain is in there but it is only the prop and that will be in full view of the audience.

With regards to the location box we have decided to use the background of a forest. This is because we want to get the same sort of effect as with the poster for Friday The 13th. That poster denotates the villian of the film but also gives the movies the sense of power and fright that we want to go for as well. Connotations of the colour scheme is something that we are going to make sure that we get correct as well. This is because the colours red and black and very significant and common throughout most ancilliary pieces of work of r horror films and we want to represent the same sort of ideas as well.

For the camera angles I want to make sure that we use the low angle shot for the poster work. The reason behind this is that this camera angle connotes power, strength and makes victims look vulnerable to weapons or antagonists. The framing is going to be, on some steps, using the rule of third technique. The prop will be in the foreground of the and the hand of the victim in the middle ground and then the viewing of the isolated area in the background to fully display the location and the setting of the rest of the trailer.

The lighting used for the poster will be that I want to make the colours as dark as possible because the connotations of dark, dingy places gives the full impression of the severity of that particular film. However emphasise will also want to be on the hand of the victim to let them know of some possibility of it being marginally safe. The same lighting hade been used on the poster for Friday The 13th and this is what I want the outcome to be.

Storyboard & Script Creation

As we are getting ever so closer to coming to the production of our project we have been designing and creating a storyboard of events. The storyboard is going to include the transitions between the different scenes, the type of angles that we will be using and the different level of shots that are going to accompany them as well.

I have used part of the script that is also being created but this isn’t the final version of the script because this is also in production at the moment.

The script also contains the setting of the forest and the specific transitions (mentioned in first paragraph) such as a static effect and any fade ins/out that we will be using when it goes through the editing process. The script is being based and structured around the storyboard itself and we believe that this was the best idea because it meant that we could get the best storyline together for this project.

Script for the horror trailer:

this is the completed script that we are going to implement for the trailer. We have changed it since the original drafts because we have swapped the roles of Callum and Ben around slightly. This is because Ben is actually a drama student and so we believe that he will be the best actor out of the two to play the “main: character of the trailer

Location – Film Set

For the location of the trailer/poster we have deicided to record our footage in Hotham Park. We chose this particular area of Bognor Regis because the surrounding area is well populated with trees and other useful locations/mise-en-scene.

This is because mixed in with the dark skies will be a good location because we can also add the effects of snapping of sticks and the tense atmosphere will make this is a good location. Furthermore I also liked one of the entrance to the park because it had an eerie atmosphere about it. This type of setting is a stereotypical location for horror films and this is why we have chosen this setting.

entrance

For the park as a whole there are varies location is which we could record the scenes for our film trailer because of the vast areas of greenery that are available for us in Hotham Park. the vast size of out chosen location can be seen below. As a filming location, I feel that this is very well suited to our needs, because it has a number of different locations that will be perfect for us.

birds eye view

To conclude this is the best location for this film because not only is this a stereotypical location for horror films but it also has an eerie feel and it could be classed as a very secluded/isolated location where help is going to be near impossible. This is the location that me and Sam have decided to use and we will start to record the different scenes in the next 3 – 4 weeks.

As the clocks will soon be going forward this means that the earlier and earlier it gets the darker it will ultimately get and this is going to be a great advantage for us. This is because it means we will have more time to film and also it means that we will be given more chances to get the production to the best that we can.

Another location is obviously The Regis School. This is where the scenes before and after the forest scene will take place. We have decided to use this location because we want the trailer to be as realistic as possible but not only this but most horror trailers/movies are involved with children/students. Also the actual atmosphere of the The Regis School is very calm and we think that this will be the best scene for the dialogue scene.

Character Profiles

Two characters are going to be the main focus for this trailer; they are going to be attempting to escape the main villain of this trailer.

Our actors are:

  • Benjamin Haines
  • Callum Henn

Ben Haines – This actor is going to be playing one of the victims for the villain within this trailer. He fits the role perfectly because he is between the 15 – 18 age brackets. This is what we need because this is the sort of age that is stereotyped with watching these films but are also seem to be the most commonly used characters in most horror films. Furthermore Ben is also a Drama student at The Regis School and this will be a great skill being brought to the production team of this Media Project.

Callum Henn

Callum Henn – The second actor for this trailer is Callum Henn. Like Ben, he is also within the stereotypical age range that I am targeting at the same time as well. Now even though he doesn’t take drama as a subject he is a very close friend of Ben’s and I believe that because of their close friendship they will be able to produce the perfect partnership and be a brilliant duo for this trailer. These characters will be able to fully get into depth within their characters and I feel that the emotion will be strong if something out of the ordinary was to happy then they will feel extremely upset about this possibility.

What’s Next?

Well seeing as I have proof read and checked all of my work to make sure that it is up to date and done to the best of my ability I now need to know what needs to be done next before production can start.

The first and most vital part of what is needed next is a production schedule/plan which is going to briefly explain when this specific part of the trailer is going to be filmed as well as the location of the scene(s). this I going to be thought of and planned out within the next 5 – 7 days and we will hope to stick by this whilst production is taking place. Furthermore me and Sam have been researching styles of fonts to use for the poster (as the title) and other fonts that will be making numerous appearances of the trailer and the website as well which will take place the same time as the trailer is being constructed and edited.

Overall I am hoping that we can plan an work out when our actors are available to record the trailer and this will be done through constant through phone and social networking sites to make sure that we are within perfect time and are like “well oiled cogs” working together for success.

Saw 3D – Website Analysis

I would have to say, personally, that this horror website subverts but also follows at the same time and I am going to explain why I think this.

The thing that really stands out for me when looking at this website is the masthead at the top of the page. “The Traps Come Alive” is very significant because it goes along with the title of the film “Final Chapter” because this means that there are going to be a lot possible gruesome scenes within the film and I believe that it infers the plot for rest of the film.

The next feature that I like with this website is the colour scheme. This is because the main colour scheme is white which has the connotation of purity and innocence but this isn’t the case when watching the film because the of the traps and storyline that goes with it as well. The next thing that is significant is the black stains that are shown as well. This colour connotes & represents that it is quite old and that they have effectively been left to die within the traps that have been put in place. Furthermore the black connotes death, mystery and injuries as well. This colour ties in completely with the plot of the film which is all about death and people being manipulated into “playing games”.

Screen shot 2013-10-15 at 09.13.22 The typography of the title for the film is very significant as well. The use of the read is very significant because this connotes blood and danger but not only this the letters S and A look as though they have been written with a blood stained hand/object. Not only this but the W has been represented with an object which appears to be like a pitchfork which is a common symbol associated with the devil himself which in-turn is associated with death, torture, manipulation and terror. The excessive use of the colour red is there for the distinctive relationship between the connotations of red and what the film is about along with the stereotypes that are associated with this film as well.

When going straight onto the website a very good feature is that a box appears displaying the trailer/clips for the film and a taster of what they can expect. I think that this is very effective because it means that the audience can be drawn into the movie and because the clips are there along with a trailer will really draw the audience to what they can expect when seeing the film. Furthermore a lot of people can already infer the details of the film because of how successful the franchise already is. Some other common conventions that are used on this website specifically is the social networking interactions as well. Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc is the best way for people who haven’t seen any Saw films before to see what the film is like and could be the difference between people seeing the film and people who don’t. This along with the “embed” an “share” options, this is a great way to advertise the product further and looks like something I might include when constructing the website for this project

home page

To conclude I feel that this website is one of the best that I have seen because use of the colours white (purity, innocence etc), black (death/funeral) an red (danger, anger) is a good mix because I think that this really sets the scene for the film and gives a very obvious but effective way of getting the movie across. Also something that I have yet to analyse is the main image that can be controlled by the use of the mouse. The main imageI would say subverts the main denotations of what a main image should do. This is because there is a main image of the antagonist/villian but I think that it isn’t very clear unlike others. With other images you might see the main villian in his/her famous disguise but you might also see

The image is in relation to the tagline “IN MIND-BLOWING 3D” which is not only a metaphor for the tagline but I think that it is related to the film as well. By this I mean that it is not only the final chapter/film but could be a reference for the type of mind games that  he is going t do which will make the audiences and the characters of the film really think about the tasks/riddles that they will both be faced with all throughout the movie.
