Textual Analysis Research

After the next couple of weeks I will be analysing some film trailers, posters and maybe some websites as well
This is because I want to see what a good trailer looks Luke and what specific connotations and props etc that have been used. I also want to see what camera angled are used and what editing techniques have also been used.
I will roughly be analysing 5/6 products to help me through this. Furthermore I will be looking at posters that are to the highest standard. This is because I will be doing the poster and I would want to see what image(s) are used on the poster itself and what makes it stand out from others in the same genre. Like the trailers I will be looking out for angles, effects and connotations used to make the best project for this unit.

A2 Main Production Brief

Today we have been given the brief for the media main production. It has consisted of 4 different tasks and they are a range of sub-tasks as well. The first one that was offered to us was the chance to do a promotion package for a new album that is going t be released. Along with this a music video with have to be included, followed by two of the three possible options:

  •  A website homepage for the band;
  • A cover for its release as part of a digipak (CD/DVD Package)
  • A magazine advertisement for the digipak (CD/DVD Package)

This is the same for all of the 4 options but I think that I am going to go with option 2. This task will consist of a teaser trailer for a new film being released. The type of genre that I am thinking about going for would be Action or Horror. During the next couple of weeks I will have to go into a lot of research for each genre so I can see the type of setting that they use and the locations in which they are set but also I would need to found out which one will be better and easier to film which will, ultimately make the production as a whole much better and more eye-catching/interesting for the audience. Furthermore the teaser film trailer will be accompanied with a homepage of a website and a poster to promote the film. To help me with deciding what genre to go with I will also be looking at some textual analysis as well. I will be looking at 5/6 film trailers ,that will be used in my final research and planning portfolio, and I will be going into great detail and I will be “picking” the trailer apart and analysing each individual thing just like I did with the similar media texts for my AS level.

I will be doing the research and the planning for the tasks and possibly the storyboard/script writing during the summer holidays and the reason for this will be because I want to make sure that I have all of the things planned and ready for September so that I can go and get going with the main production straight away. Also this will aid me because it means that I will be scheduled and have all of the different tasks planned out and ready to get going.

And so to conclude I think that I will be doing a film project with 1 or 2 other people in a group and the genre will be either action or horror. But I will need to do some research in the next 5 or 6 weeks to make sure that the success and construction of the project will be done to the best of mine and my groups ability so that we can achieve the highest possible grade at the end of it all. However after some careful consideration I tihnk I have decided to go with the genre of horror because I believe that we can really benefit from doing this type of genre.

A Day In The Life – Evaluation

This is the YouTube link to our video for this day in the life project (Finished):

The aim of this task was to create a small preliminary film clip that was going to last between 3:30 – 5:00 minutes. We had to makes sure that the film clip was right for the audience and that it was going to eye catching and nor boring or the audience at the same time. Also the aim of this was to get used to doing film production because it is a big step up from the AS course in which we did a magazine cover.  We were hoping that this video was going to be a mockumentary type film clip.

My role for the production of this task was to bring all of our ideas together and turn it into out final film clip of Kyran Schneider. I was also working with my co-editor: Sam Stroud, and I feel that we have worked well with the videos that we were given.

I think that the media language that we portrayed across to the audience was very good, this is because we made sure that we had an array of sound or different editing transactions so that the narrative would stay in focus. furthermore we tried to use a variety of camera angles to ensure that we were making best of the camera angles with the resources that we had. The reaction as a whole was kind of what we had originally anticipated but to be honest I thought that it was better than what I personally had anticipated the film clip t be when shown to the rest of the audience. Furthermore I think that we used the right amount of camera angles to connote the life of Kyran for the audienec and I believe that we had achieved this throughout the project.

As a result of doing this project I have learnt to be a bit more adventurous with all forms of writing/scripting  and filming or clips. Also I have learnt a bit more about effects and how to make sure that the music that was being played was going to be in time with the rest of the clip and whether or not it was going to faded out/in correctly.

A skill that I had developed was mainly during the editing process as a whole. I had learnt some new things from my co editor Sam Stroud and hopefully I will keep these new skulls and carry them forward to the main production and even further in life.

For the main production I plan to make sure that I be more prepared and that there is a schedule that is clear and easy to follow. Not only this but I need to  make sure that I have all of the relevant and correct film clips so that I can spend a bit more time that I had for this task to do editing and making it look eye catching for the audience.

And finally I think that this video production has been a success overall and I am really happy with the outcome of the film clip.

05/07/2013 – Shooting Schedule & Shot List

We are coming towards the end of our planning stages for this task and we are set to record the clip in the next couple of days. We have produced a shooting schedule which is a guideline in a way and will help us to see what props we will be using and the actors that will be include in this preliminary production film clip. We have also included a Shot LIst. This has been produced because it will allow us to what kind of shots we will possibly be using for each scene. Not only this but it allows us to see what shows work well within that particular environment and what shot types don’t work as well as we would have hoped for.

Here is a look at the shooting schedule and the shot list that we have produced:

Storyboard Completion

We have completed a storyboard for the preliminary production task for this part of the unit. We have made sure that the pictures/images of the storyboard are clear and well presented to make it easy to follow and to know what the story is about. On the story board itself we have listed the different camera angles being used and in what way this effect is going to be used for this short preliminary production. We have used a variety of different camera shots and different transitions between each scene.Story1 Story2

After this has been done we will then publish post a new blog about the storyboard as a whole and then about the script will then upload as well.
